for 1898, with octagonal to round blued 30in. barrel, later dove-tailed adjustable tunnel fore-sight, blanked off rear-sight dove-tail, the top flat of barrel signed 'MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. USA PATENTED OCTOBER 7 1879' and drilled and tapped for telescopic sight mounting blocks (missing, holes blanked off), slab-sided blued falling-block action with central hammer, top-tang fitted with a later folding ladder vernier peep sight, straight-hand butt-stock, nickel-plated Swiss-style heel-plate, blued under-lever, special Winchester single set trigger, walnut splinter fore-end with inlet ebony tip, much finish remaining
